PolitiChoice.com is committed to protecting the privacy of our registered members and subscribers. To better protect your privacy, we provide this notice explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used. This policy is effective July 1, 2007.

What information do you capture when I register?

We capture your name, email, and zipcode.  Optionally, we also request your phone number and a variety of demographic data (age range, party, educational level, etc). 

Our main use of the optional information is to allow our members to analyze political data by each of these categories so they can see how the entire user base stands on a particular issue. Unless you specifically designate a user in your Friends settings, no other user will be able to see your individual demographic settings or issue stances.

Your e-mail address will be used to send registration confirmation, to inform you of updates to the candidate match survey, to inform you when candidates have been added, and to e-mail you about other services and news that may be of interest to you. Though we hope you gain value from the messages you receive, you can choose to opt-out of receiving further messages by following the instructions provided at the close of each e-mail. We will honor the change to your account preferences on PolitiChoice.com.  We also advertise on many other Internet and email outlets (such as Google for example). Therefore you may see our advertisements in connection with other websites and email outlets from which we have no control.

We may from time to time send you special offers and advertisements for products or services offered by our advertising partners, with a specific focus on those in which we feel align with the information and choices you have provided us with. Again, if you wish to not receive these, you may simply opt-out.

Lastly, we may license our user base information to an advertising partner if they are providing a product or service which we deem may be of value to our members.  In this case, we may communicate the contact information of our members to these parties for this purpose.  Keeping in stride with our overall policy, if you have not opted to receive this type of information from us, we will make sure you are not included in this type of communication.

We take care to research our partners and make sure they are legitimate entities that are not engaged in illegal SPAM activity.  If you feel you are being contacted by someone who is doing so against your wishes due to our website, contact us at admin@politichoice.com and we will make sure your opt-in setting is correct and remove you from any future communications between ourselves and that entity.

What are cookies? How do you use cookies?

Cookies are small pieces of information that your browser stores on your computer's hard drive. Cookies do not hold any personal information, but they allow us to remember your password and store your site preferences.

If you check the "Remember me" box on the login page, we store your encrypted username and password to make it easier and faster to login the next time you return to the site.

If you choose not to accept any cookies on the site, you will still be able to use all the features of the site. You will, however, need to provide your login information during each visit.

Do you track site usage and traffic patterns?

Yes. By monitoring traffic patterns we learn which links and pages of the site are the most utilized. Politichoice.com will then use this information to further develop the features and functionality of the site and, hopefully, enhance your online membership experience.

How will I know if your privacy policy changes?

If there are changes to our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, the homepage, and/or other places we deem appropriate so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.
