Questions and their associated positions

Each questions is multiple choice with either 2, 3 or 5 possible responses.  The responses are designed to represent the range of political thought on each.  Read them carefully and choose the answer that most closely represents your position.

Importance

Below those responses is also an area to pick how important each question is to you.  This aspect is very important in determining which candidate will score closest to your positions.  The more importance you give a question, the more weight that response will be given when matching your views to a candidate.  For a more detailed understanding of how the importance is used in the scoring, click here.

Once you've chosen your answer and set it's importance, you can click "save and move to next question" to continue.  Once all questions have been answered, you will be given the opportunity to view how your responses align with a variety of candidates, political parties, etc.

Your responses are saved as you go.  Don't worry, if you leave in the middle of the survey, your answers will all be there when you come back!

Blog feedback and ensuring fairness in phrasing

PolitiChoice.com works very hard to make sure the questions are relevant, and most importantly are phrased in such a way as to make them as non-biased as possible.  Of course everyone's views on these issues are very different and everyone, including our staff, has their own opinions that can introduce unintended bias to a question.

In order to invite input and allow the Politichoice.com community to help make sure the questions and positions are as unbiased as possible in how they are phrased, we invite all participants to provide feedback on the blog provided on every question.  If after reading a question and the positions, you notice something that makes you feel the question is worded improperly, not all positions are represented for that questions, or that the positions for each questions are slanted too heavily in one direction or another, simply click on "+Add a Comment" at the bottom of the page and enter your opinion.  This will be posted on the blog for all readers to see.  If enough people agree with your opinion as to how it should be reworded, and the PolitiChoice.com moderators feel it truly is an improvement, then we will change the question and/or the responses to reflect that improvement.  All of these blogs are also available in the Blogs section of the site as well.

Candidate Responses

PolitiChoice.com has worked very hard to accurately gather how the candidates stand on the issues.  If a candidate or a candidate's campaign chooses to provide responses, those responses will be used completely.  However, candidate's are generally very reluctant to give clear, documented positions on many of these issues.  That's why we're here!

We research every candidate presented, and provide the best estimate for where each candidate stands.  We even provide references where availabe to show what quote, press release, news story, candidate statement, vote or other basis was used to set the candidate's position.  To access these references, click on the candidate's name in the matching summary, and then click on "select" next to an individual response shown for the candidate.

As we strive to be independent and unbiased, there are blogs provided for every candidate to comment on whether you agree or disagree with where we have that candidate positioned on the issue.  We have provided other areas for that.  These areas are used to invite feedback and references if you feel we have a candidate inaccurately positioned on a topic.
